Vulgar(e)

The Ladybug treats me with indifference. She just walks away as if I am not even there.  The ants don’t seem to like her.  I imagine they don’t share the same views of aphids. This is what is left of the tansy. It’s the so called ‘tanacetum vulgare’ aka golden buttons. I’m always fascinated by words like ‘vulgar.’ A reference to the common people, the name for the Latin Bible “Vulgate”, with the wonderfully appropriate connotation of being repulsive.

  1. Hey Bruce. I just discovered Friday that. New Milkweed is infested with aphids, so I could use a platoon of ladybugs as defense. This is a great photo. I find myself ruminating on words often too.
